Description

Wicked Witch Hat Brownies are fudgy chocolate brownies topped with ice cream cones decorated as witch hats. This recipe is perfect for Halloween parties and can be made gluten-free and vegan.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 24 chocolate ice cream cones
  • 1 (16 ounce) container store-bought chocolate frosting
  • Black decorating gel or melted black candy melts
  • Assorted Halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and unsweetened chocolate together. Stir until smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and cocoa powder.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached (not wet batter).
  10. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  11. Once cooled, cut the brownies into squares.
  12. Frost the flat, open end of each chocolate ice cream cone with chocolate frosting.
  13. Place the frosted end of the cone onto the top of each brownie square, pressing gently to secure. This creates your witch hat base.
  14. Use black decorating gel or melted black candy melts to draw a witch hat brim onto the brownie around the base of the cone. You can also add a buckle detail.
  15. Decorate the witch hats with assorted Halloween sprinkles for extra flair. These are your Wicked Witch Hat Brownies!
  16. For gluten-free witch hat brownies, use a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend.
  17. For vegan witch hat brownies, use vegan butter, vegan chocolate, and a flax egg (1 tablespoon flaxseed meal mixed with 3 tablespoons water, let sit for 5 minutes) instead of eggs. Ensure your ice cream cones and frosting are also vegan.

Notes

  • For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake them.
  • You can use different types of chocolate chips, like milk or dark chocolate.
  • Get creative with your witch hat decorations! Add orange sprinkles for a pop of color or use different colored frosting.
  • These Wicked Witch Hat Brownies are best served at room temperature.
