Description

Tender slices of beef cooked slowly in a sweet and savory Mongolian sauce, perfect for serving over rice or noodles.


Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 green onions, sliced for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, toss the sliced flank steak with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steak strips for 1-2 minutes per side until lightly browned.
  3. Transfer the browned beef to the slow cooker.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, water, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  5. Pour the sauce over the beef in the slow cooker and mix to coat evenly.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours, or until the beef is tender. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
