- 2 tablespoons water (Adjust for desired icing consistency.)
- 3 cups confectioners’ sugar (Adjust as needed for thickness.)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (Enhances sweetness.)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line three sheet pans with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cream of tartar in a bowl.
- Cream the room-temperature butter in a stand mixer until it’s creamy. Add the granulated sugar next and beat until fluffy.
- Incorporate the egg, followed by the cocoa powder, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually combine the dry mixture into the wet ingredients. Mix until there are no visible streaks of flour.
- Shape the dough into 3 oz (85 g) balls and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake one pan at a time, gently banging the pan every 2 minutes, baking for a total of 13-16 minutes.
- Cool the cookies on the baking pan for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- Prepare the icing by melting the butter, then whisking in cream cheese, water, vanilla, and salt.
- Dip the cooled cookies halfway into the icing and decorate with sprinkles.
