Description

A classic patty melt recipe featuring juicy ground beef patties, melted cheddar and provolone cheese, and a savory sauce, all grilled between slices of toasted rye bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon real bacon bits
  • 1 teaspoon sweet relish
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef with pepper, salt, and onion powder. Shape into three patties.
  3. Cook patties in a preheated nonstick skillet over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through (160°F internal temp).
  4. Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, bacon bits, and relish in a bowl to create the sauce.
  5. Assemble sandwiches: place buttered bread in the skillet, layer with cheese, patty, and more cheese; top with another slice of buttered bread.
  6. Grill until golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh ground beef and quality cheeses.
  • Cook patties over medium heat to achieve a perfect crust without burning the bread.
  • Ensure patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for safe consumption.
  • Allow enough time for each side to toast properly for the best texture.
  • Experiment with different cheeses like Swiss for variety.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
  • Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes, microwave for 1-2 minutes, or on the stovetop for about 5 minutes per side.
