  • 8 slices Sliced Ham (Substitute with turkey or chicken if desired)
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese (Cheddar or mozzarella recommended)
  • 1 large Egg (beaten) (For egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard (Optional, for a tangy flavor)
  • to taste Salt and Pepper (Adjust according to preference)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry to about 1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes from the pastry and place them on the baking sheet.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced ham and shredded cheese. Add Dijon mustard if desired, and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Spoon a small amount of filling onto half of the heart shapes, leaving a clean edge for sealing.
  6. Place another heart cutout on top, sealing the edges by pressing down and crimping with a fork.
  7. Beat the egg and brush it on top of the pastries for a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Let cool on a wire rack for a few moments before serving.
