Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry to about 1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes from the pastry and place them on the baking sheet.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced ham and shredded cheese. Add Dijon mustard if desired, and season with salt and pepper.
- Spoon a small amount of filling onto half of the heart shapes, leaving a clean edge for sealing.
- Place another heart cutout on top, sealing the edges by pressing down and crimping with a fork.
- Beat the egg and brush it on top of the pastries for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
