Description

Learn how to freeze rhubarb and enjoy its sweet-tart flavor throughout the year with this simple method.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bunch Fresh rhubarb (Choose firm, vibrant stalks; discard any toxic leaves.)
  • 1 package Zip-top freezer bags (Use high-quality bags to prevent freezer burn.)
  • to taste Sugar or sweetener (Toss rhubarb with sugar before freezing for added sweetness.)

Instructions

  1. Select fresh rhubarb from your garden or local market. Look for vibrant, firm stalks, and discard any toxic leaves.
  2. Wash the rhubarb thoroughly under cool running water to remove any dirt. Pat dry with a clean kitchen towel.
  3. Trim any rough ends from the stalks. Slice the rhubarb into uniform pieces, about half an inch thick.
  4. Place the sliced rhubarb in a zip-top freezer bag. Press out as much air as possible before sealing.
  5. Lay the bag flat on a baking sheet and freeze it for at least four hours.
  6. Store your frozen rhubarb bag in the freezer, labeling it with the date.
