Description

Savory Egyptian Hawawshi is a delightful comfort food bursting with flavor and spices.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium white or yellow onion
  • 1/4 cup flat-leaf parsley
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon baharat spice mix
  • 1 optional chili pepper
  • 4 pieces pita breads

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, minced onion, parsley, garlic, kosher salt, black pepper, and baharat spice mix. Add chopped chili if desired.
  2. Slice pita breads in half to form pockets. Gently open them without tearing the edges.
  3. Stuff each pita pocket with the spiced beef mixture, pressing it evenly inside.
  4. Preheat a skillet or grill over medium heat. Cook each stuffed pita for 4–5 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  5. Remove from heat and let them cool slightly before serving.
