- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
- 1 large yellow onion, finely diced (about 1 ½ cups)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes, undrained
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can petite diced tomatoes, undrained
- 2 cups beef broth, low sodium
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- ½ teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground, or to taste
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened and cut into 1-inch cubes
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 pound medium shell pasta (Conchiglie Medium)
- Salt for pasta water
- 2 cups shredded cheese blend
- ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat olive oil and sauté onions until translucent (5-7 mins). Add garlic; cook 1 min until fragrant.
- Push aromatics aside, brown ground beef (8-10 mins), breaking it up; drain excess fat.
- Deglaze pan with crushed and petite diced tomatoes. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well, bring to a gentle simmer, cover and cook for 20-25 mins.
- Stir in softened cream cheese cubes until smooth. Add heavy cream and stir until combined. Adjust seasonings as needed.
- Cook pasta al dente in salted boiling water. Drain pasta (do not rinse) and transfer hot pasta into the sauce. Fold until shells are coated.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish. Spoon mixture into dish, spreading evenly. Sprinkle cheese blend over the top.
- Bake for 20-25 mins until cheese is melted and bubbly. Let rest for 5-10 mins. Garnish with parsley if desired. Serve hot.
