Description

Irresistibly Chewy Christmas Cookie Bars for Holiday Joy

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter (softened)
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar (packed)
  • 2 large Large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 cup Chocolate Chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup Colorful Sprinkles (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Whisk together the dry ingredients: in a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg; set aside.
  3. Cream the butter and both sugars in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing in the vanilla until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients; mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and sprinkles gently if using.
  7. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Cool completely in the pan before slicing into bars.

Notes

  • Consider using whole wheat flour for a nuttier flavor.
  • Margarine or coconut oil can be a great substitute for butter.
  • Swap granulated sugar with brown sugar for a deeper flavor.
  • Mixing white sugar with brown sugar gives a varied taste.
  • Almond extract can be used for a unique twist.
  • Ensure baking powder is fresh for good rise.
  • Use sea salt or kosher salt for a different flavor.
  • Replace cinnamon with nutmeg or allspice if preferred.
  • Omit nutmeg if unavailable or double up on cinnamon.
  • Choose from dark, milk, or white chocolate for the chips.
  • Skip sprinkles for a classic look or substitute with nuts.
