Description

This Sausage Breakfast Casserole is a comforting and satisfying dish perfect for feeding a crowd. It features fluffy eggs, savory sausage, and gooey cheese baked with bread, making it an ideal make-ahead meal for brunches or holiday mornings.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 6 slices white bread, cubed
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions (optional)
  • Butter for greasing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and crumbled. Drain excess fat.
  3. Layer the cubed bread in the bottom of the prepared dish, then scatter the cooked sausage on top. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and dried mustard. Pour egg mixture evenly over the casserole.
  5. Sprinkle with chopped green onions if desired. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden.
  6. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
