Description

Enjoy hearty, comfort food with these tender Mushroom Gravy Smothered Rissoles. Savory beef rissoles are pan-seared and covered in a creamy mushroom gravy. This easy recipe is perfect for weeknight dinners or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Form the mixture into 8-10 small patties (rissoles).
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Sear the rissoles for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned. Remove rissoles from skillet and set aside.
  5. Melt butter in the same skillet over medium heat.
  6. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until softened and browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir for 1 minute.
  8. Gradually whisk in beef broth and milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly.
  9. Cook the mushroom gravy until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  10. Return the rissoles to the skillet. Spoon the mushroom gravy over them.
  11. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until rissoles are cooked through and the gravy is heated.
  12. Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve your mushroom gravy smothered rissoles hot.

Notes

  • Serve these mushroom gravy rissoles over mashed potatoes or rice.
  • For a richer gravy, use heavy cream instead of milk.
  • You can add garlic to the mushroom gravy for extra flavor.
  • Ensure your rissoles are cooked through for food safety.
