Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup milk
- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off excess grease.
- Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic, chili powder, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Pour in the undrained diced tomatoes and beef broth. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- Stir in the milk and uncooked elbow macaroni. Bring back to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the macaroni is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy. Serve your homemade Hamburger Helper hot.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- You can substitute other pasta shapes like shells or rotini.
- Feel free to add in cooked vegetables like corn or peas.
- For a creamier texture, use whole milk.
