Heart-Shaped Macarons That Will Melt Your Valentine’s Heart


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 cup Almond Flour
  • 2 Large Egg Whites
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Red or Pink Food Coloring (Optional)
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar for Filling
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract for Filling
  • 2 tablespoons Heavy Cream or Milk
  • pinch Salt

Instructions

  1. Sift together the powdered sugar and almond flour into a bowl.
  2. Whisk the egg whites until foamy, then gradually add in granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
  3. Gently fold in the sifted dry ingredients into the whipped egg whites.
  4. Transfer the macaron batter into a piping bag and pipe heart shapes onto parchment-lined baking sheets.
  5. Allow the piped macarons to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake the macarons for 18-20 minutes.
  7. Beat unsalted butter until smooth, then incorporate powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
  8. Pipe a generous dollop of buttercream onto one shell and sandwich it with another.
  9. Refrigerate the assembled macarons for at least 24 hours before serving.
