- 1 cup Almond Flour
- 2 Large Egg Whites
- 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- Red or Pink Food Coloring (Optional)
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar for Filling
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract for Filling
- 2 tablespoons Heavy Cream or Milk
- pinch Salt
Instructions
- Sift together the powdered sugar and almond flour into a bowl.
- Whisk the egg whites until foamy, then gradually add in granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold in the sifted dry ingredients into the whipped egg whites.
- Transfer the macaron batter into a piping bag and pipe heart shapes onto parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Allow the piped macarons to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake the macarons for 18-20 minutes.
- Beat unsalted butter until smooth, then incorporate powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Pipe a generous dollop of buttercream onto one shell and sandwich it with another.
- Refrigerate the assembled macarons for at least 24 hours before serving.
