  • 1 package Puff Pastry (Store-bought, preferably all-butter)
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter (Softened)
  • 8 ounces Almond Paste (Sweet and dense filling)
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar (Adjust according to taste)
  • 1 large Egg (Beaten, reserve half for egg wash)
  • 1/4 cup Sliced Almonds (For crunch and visual appeal)
  • 1 tablespoon Powdered Sugar (For dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Unfold the puff pastry and let it rest briefly for easy handling.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the almond paste, softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg. Mix until the mixture becomes creamy and smooth.
  3. Spread the filling in the center third of the pastry. Cut diagonal slits on the outer thirds evenly and alternate folding the strips over the filling to create a lovely braided effect.
  4. Brush the top with the remaining egg to achieve a golden finish. Sprinkle the sliced almonds on top, and bake for 20-25 minutes until it’s puffed and golden brown.
  5. Allow the pastry to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before slicing and serving warm or at room temperature.
