Description

Delicious Apple Puffs: A Cozy Twist on Classic Comfort Food

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces puff pastry
  • 1 pound cooking apples
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon rind, finely grated
  • 1 tablespoon orange blossom water or cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon fine-cut orange marmalade
  • caster sugar for sprinkling
  • extra orange marmalade for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Grease and flour a baking sheet or line it with parchment.
  2. Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them. Stew the apples in 1/2 cup of water until tender, about 10-15 minutes. Drain and let cool completely.
  3. Mix cooled apples in a bowl with brown sugar, lemon rind, marmalade, and optional orange blossom water or cinnamon. Adjust flavors to your preference.
  4. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface until about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 8 squares, each about 4 inches wide.
  5. Place a line of the apple mixture down the center of each square, leaving space at the ends for sealing.
  6. Dampen the edges of the pastry squares with reserved apple cooking liquid.
  7. Fold the edges over the filling, creating a tube shape. Pinch and seal the edges with a fork.
  8. Seal the ends of each pastry tube with the fork.
  9. Brush the tops with reserved apple cooking liquid and sprinkle with caster sugar.
  10. Cut vents into the top of each pastry with a sharp knife.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  12. Serve warm with extra marmalade or candied orange peel.

Notes
