Description

A warm and comforting bowl of Creamy Great Northern Beans with Ham, perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Great Northern Beans (Soak overnight for optimal creaminess.)
  • 3 to 4 cups Water (Adjust for desired consistency.)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (Minced.)
  • 1/2 large Onion (Chopped.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Freshly Ground Pepper
  • a pinch Ground Cloves (Use sparingly.)
  • 1 lb Smoked Ham (Cubed. Substitute with deli ham if desired.)
  • 14.5 oz Chicken Broth (Can also use vegetable broth.)
  • 3 to 4 cups Water (Adjust to cover ingredients.)

Instructions

  1. Soak the beans overnight in fresh water. Alternatively, perform a quick soak by boiling beans for 5 minutes, then cover for 30 minutes.
  2. Rinse the soaked beans and add them to the slow cooker. Add minced garlic, chopped onion, salt, pepper, cubed smoked ham, and ground cloves.
  3. Pour in the chicken broth and enough water to cover the ingredients completely.
  4. Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours until the beans are creamy and tender.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving. Store leftovers once cooled.
