Ingredients

- 1 cup Great Northern Beans (Soak overnight for optimal creaminess.)
- 3 to 4 cups Water (Adjust for desired consistency.)
- 3 cloves Garlic (Minced.)
- 1/2 large Onion (Chopped.)
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Freshly Ground Pepper
- a pinch Ground Cloves (Use sparingly.)
- 1 lb Smoked Ham (Cubed. Substitute with deli ham if desired.)
- 14.5 oz Chicken Broth (Can also use vegetable broth.)
- 3 to 4 cups Water (Adjust to cover ingredients.)
Instructions
- Soak the beans overnight in fresh water. Alternatively, perform a quick soak by boiling beans for 5 minutes, then cover for 30 minutes.
- Rinse the soaked beans and add them to the slow cooker. Add minced garlic, chopped onion, salt, pepper, cubed smoked ham, and ground cloves.
- Pour in the chicken broth and enough water to cover the ingredients completely.
- Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours until the beans are creamy and tender.
- Taste and adjust seasoning before serving. Store leftovers once cooled.
