Description

Indulge in this irresistible cheese bread, perfectly soft and fluffy, with a crispy crust and gooey cheese throughout.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon cooking/kosher salt
  • 1.5 cups warm tap water
  • 2 cups Colby cheese
  • 2 cups optional cheese substitutes (Cheddar or gruyere)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine bread flour, instant yeast, and salt. Gently stir in warm water until there are no dry flour bits left.
  2. Cover the bowl tightly with cling wrap and set it in a warm spot. Allow the dough to rise until it doubles in size, which usually takes about 2-3 hours.
  3. Sprinkle flour on your work surface. Transfer the dough and flatten it into a disc. Lightly fold in the shredded cheese.
  4. About 30 minutes before baking, place a heavy pot (with its lid) in the oven and preheat to 240°C (450°F).
  5. Carefully place the shaped dough onto parchment paper. Pile the reserved cheese on top and transfer it to the hot pot.
  6. Cover with the lid and bake for 35 minutes. Then, remove the lid and continue baking for another 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Once baked, carefully remove the bread and let it rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • Use freshly shredded cheese for best results.
  • Cheddar or gruyere can be used as substitutes.
