Description

A vibrant and festive Caprese Christmas Wreath, featuring fresh pearl-sized mozzarella, ripe cherry tomatoes, and aromatic basil leaves. This elegant appetizer merges classic Italian flavors with holiday cheer, offering a light, refreshing, and visually stunning centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bunch fresh basil
  • 100g baby bocconcini balls, drained
  • 250g cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 30ml extra virgin olive oil
  • Sea salt flakes, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup balsamic vinegar and 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup. Simmer over medium heat, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-20 minutes. Cool completely.
  2. Thoroughly drain 100g baby bocconcini balls and pat dry. Wash and dry 250g cherry or grape tomatoes. Wash and dry 1 bunch of fresh basil.
  3. Drizzle 15ml olive oil over mozzarella, season with half the salt and pepper. Toss gently. Drizzle remaining olive oil over tomatoes, season, and toss.
  4. On a large serving platter, arrange fresh basil leaves in a circular pattern around the outer edge.
  5. Distribute seasoned mozzarella evenly on top of the basil base.
  6. Tuck seasoned tomatoes among the mozzarella and basil.
  7. Continue layering remaining basil, mozzarella, and tomatoes to build volume, ensuring a distinct circle in the center.
  8. Drizzle cooled balsamic glaze over the wreath. Add optional garnishes like toasted pine nuts or sprigs of fresh herbs.
  9. Perform a final taste test, adjust seasoning if needed. Serve immediately or refrigerate for a short time before serving.
