Description

Learn how to make authentic buñuelos, a traditional Mexican dessert. These easy buñuelos are crispy, sweet, and perfect for any occasion, especially Christmas. This buñuelos recipe will guide you through making delicious fried dough buñuelos at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/4 cup sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  5. In a shallow dish, combine the 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon for coating.
  6. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Gently stretch or roll out small portions of the buñuelos dough. You can make them round or in strips.
  8. Carefully fry the buñuelos in the hot oil, a few at a time, until golden brown and puffed, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  9. Remove the fried buñuelos with a slotted spoon and immediately dip them into the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating both sides.
  10. Place the coated buñuelos on a wire rack to cool. Enjoy your homemade buñuelos!

Notes

  • Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature for crispy buñuelos.
  • Don’t overcrowd the skillet when frying.
  • Experiment with different shapes for your buñuelos.
